Endless Blues, Koh Phi Phi Thailand

Our next stop was the famous Koh Phi Phi. And what better way to spend one of our days here than sailing around the islands, paddling in the tropical waters and snorkelling in Leo Dicaprio's Maya Bay.

I arrived in Koh Phi Phi and instantly fell in love with it. If you have an image of what Thailand's islands look like in your head (I'm guessing it's going to be the rocks in the sea covered in palm trees and lined with beaches, turquoise waters and brightly coloured wooden long boats - yep, I'm pretty much right, aren't I?) then thats exactly what it looks like. Phi Phi is basically the exact reality of what you're picturing in your minds and what you see images being shared of all over social media. It's absolutely breathtaking.

From the second I arrived, I knew I'd never want to leave. Phi Phi is famous for Bamboo island, Maya Bay (from DiCaprio's film 'The Beach') and Monkey Beach. So we quickly booked ourselves onto a little boat trip for the following day to take us to all the must-see sights. We headed to the pier bright and early and started what was going to turn out to be one of the best days in my whole 3 months of travelling.

We set sail, headed into the middle of the sea and dived into the waters for our first bit of snorkelling. This particular area was called 'Shark Bay' so it didn't exactly fill us with confidence about what was lurking underneath.. But we went in nonetheless!

We then climbed back on board and sailed to the most stunning beach I've ever set foot on - Bamboo Island. It's a little island located around a 15 minute journey from Phi Phi itself, and has the most crystal clear waters and white sands that I've ever seen. It was literally like walking on flour.

We paddled around for a good hour or so, as well as seeing it as the perfect place for a good old photo oppourtunity.

As sad as it was to leave this little beauty, we hopped back onto our boat and made our way through the sea amongst all the rocks and coves of tiny isolated islands and bays. Having heard stories about Monkey Beach before our trip and that the little guys are known for grabbing your personal belongings and running back off into the trees, we were a teeeeeny bit nervous for what we were about to witness next.

But just our luck, the beach was empty as we rocked up and no monkeys were in sight! Slightly gutting as it would've been fun to experience, but at least my iPhone and camera made it back to Phi Phi in one piece.

We instead carried onto the most touristy attraction of the whole boat trip - good old Maya Bay (as seen above). Snorkels and cameras at the ready, we headed onto the beach.

We beached up, sat ourselves down on our towels and admired the 360 degree views. It was absolutely incredible, not to mention just how peaceful it was. Although a little tip for you here... if you're thinking of visiting Maya Bay then try to get there first thing in the morning or for sunset. Because of just how popular it is with backpackers and tourists, it is absolutely flocked to during the day and gets seriously busy. It's still crazy beautiful, but the amount of boats lined up on the shore and people on the beach can't help but slightly ruin the overall effect.

So if you want that perfect picture that replicates Leo DiCaprio in the exact same spot like in the film 'The Beach' - go early. Just get up and go, you won't regret it.

We managed to get here an hour or so before sunset, so set sail back to the main island of Koh Phi Phi whilst watching the sky change colour in front of us.

If you want to experience the natural beauty of Southern Thailand, then Koh Phi Phi is definitely the place for you. It was such an amazing day and we finished it off in true backpacker style by having a huge night out with friends we'd met the day before, at the many beach bars/clubs. It was so much fun.

Koh Phi Phi, I miss you and your turquoise waters already. In fact, I think you're my new favourite.
